Bartlett Campus Recreation and Activities

The Bartlett Campus features numerous outdoor recreational opportunities – a basketball court, sand volleyball court, playground, and an exercise trail leading around the lake. We offer canoes for supervised games and races on the lake and children and counselors also may fish in the lake.

Children enjoy spending their free time on hot summer afternoons in the large outdoor swimming pool on campus.

The recreational therapy staff regularly engages students in therapeutic physical activities inside the campus school’s gymnasium to teach teamwork, sportsmanship, trust, improve communication and allow children to dispense stored-up energy.

Children who are overweight or obese may choose to participate in an individualized exercise program to help lose weight and build a healthier body image. In addition to the gym, an adjacent exercise room is equipped with treadmills and weight machines.

Our West African style therapeutic drumming engages young participants in building and playing drums, improving hand-eye coordination, stimulating brain activity, and teaching musical skills that will last a lifetime.

The campus running club is another popular activity. Participants go on regular runs on campus with volunteer coaches and, when they are ready, run with them in area races such as the YV5K.

Although admission requirements vary based on the individual program, primarily, we treat hard-to-help, hard-to-place children who have emotional and behavioral problems plus co-occurring medical issues and failed at numerous other programs.
