Because our organization is growing so rapidly, we put a premium on identifying talent quickly and nurturing professional advancement. Staff have almost immediate opportunities to move up on both clinical and management tracks. To help young counselors advance, Youth Villages offers 100% tuition reimbursement and support for licensure that includes both paid fees and supervision.
Paid time off
Youth Villages employees receive ten paid holidays including New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Memorial Day. In addition, new full-time employees will accrue 10 days of vacation time each year, and regular part-time employees will accrue 5 vacation days each year. After five years of service, regular full-time employees accrue 15 vacation days each year, and regular part-time employees accrue 10 vacation days. Youth Villages also provides paid sick leave benefits to all eligible employees for periods of temporary absence due to illness or injuries. Eligible employees will accrue sick leave benefits at the rate of 12 days per year (1 day for every full month of service) beginning the first day of employment.
Annual merit increase consideration
At Youth Villages, you’ll have lots of opportunity for advancement by moving up your career track. In addition to that, every employee gets a chance at a salary increase every year. Your supervisor must conduct a systematic performance review each year, and you’re eligible for a merit salary increase.
Youth Villages retirement plan
When you come to work at Youth Villages, the organization starts saving for your retirement. Every year, the organization makes a contribution equal to 6 percent of your salary into your own personal retirement account. Employees are 100 percent vested after six years of employment.
403B tax-deferred savings plan
The earlier you start saving for retirement the better. Youth Villages can help you get started, or rollover retirement funds from a previous employer. We offer tax-deferred savings plans for retirement through 403b plans — the nonprofit world’s equivalent to the 401k. You may contribute to your 403b through Ameriprise, Fidelity or Vanguard. All contributions and earnings are untaxed until withdrawn, tax-deferred annuities grow significantly faster than conventional savings account. The sooner you start, the more your savings will grow due to compounded earning.
Youth Villages is committed to providing great health care coverage for our employees at affordable prices. In part because of our health and wellness campaigns, Youth Villages has been able to go many years without an increase in costs for employees. Insurance is provided by United Healthcare, the nation’s largest health care provider. Medical insurance becomes effective after three months of full-time employment.
Youth Villages offers dental insurance for both employees and their families. Each family member receives up to $1000 coverage each year to use for dental services. Orthodontic coverage is available to children of employees who are under age 19. The Lifetime orthodontic maximum is $1,000.
Prescription drug coverage
Youth Villages provides an affordable prescription benefit plan. You can get 30-day prescription supplies at your local pharmacy or order a 90-day supply through mail order. The service is provided through MedCo.
Whether your vision is 20/20 or less than perfect, you need regular eye examinations. Youth Villages provides vision care through United Healthcare. Through the benefit, Youth Villages employees are provided access to a national network of private providers and retail chain providers.
Tuition and licensure reimbursement
For counselors, obtaining a master’s or licensure increases both professional competency and chances for advancement. Youth Villages wants to help you grow your skills and be able to advance your career here. We provide tuition reimbursement up to $4000 per year for 6 credit hours a semester and also assist with licensure reimbursement. We also provide supervisors for the licensure process and allow you to use your work hours to meet requirements.
Youth Villages provides a basic life insurance plan, with a benefit of $15,000, to all full-time and regular part-time employees. Employees can purchase additional life insurance at group rates.
Employees may purchase short-term disability insurance at group rates through Unum. This insurance replaces a portion of an employee’s monthly income in case an illness or off-the-job injury prevents the employee from fulfilling his or her job duties. Employees choose the amount of coverage and effective dates of policies.
- Supplemental accident insurance, which can be chosen by employees, provides extra coverage for accidents that happen outside of work or home.
- Critical illness insurance can provide a lump sum payment to a severely ill employee who has been diagnosed with a heart attack, stroke, major organ transplant, permanent paralysis, kidney failure, bypass surgery or cancer, which must be selected separately.
Youth Villages cares about the health of all of our employees. To help you maintain a healthy lifestyle, we provide on-site fitness centers at some of our offices, discounts to local gyms and Weight Watchers groups at work.
- When the new Operations Center was built it included a fitness room with treadmills, elliptical machines, a stationary bike, free weights and other workout aids. Exercise rooms are being added to other Youth Villages offices. The Bartlett Campus has an exercise room, plus a walking/running trail around the lake. The Dogwood Campus has an outdoors walking and running trail as well. New on-site fitness centers have been installed in the Nashville, Knoxville and Columbia offices. More are coming. Fitness is part of the Youth Villages culture.
- If you can’t get enough of working out in an on-site fitness center or on your campus walk/run trail, Youth Villages will pay 20 percent off selected gym memberships, usually the YMCA.
- If you’ve got a few pounds to drop, Youth Villages is a great place to work. Along with the fitness encouragement, we offer Weight Watchers groups that meet during work hours. Youth Villages pays Weight Watchers fees for employees who lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks. What an incentive!

Youth Villages staff may sign up for a free checking account at Southern Security Federal Credit Union.
ATM/Debit payroll card
Most of our employees have their paychecks directly deposited into bank accounts. If you are not affiliated with any bank, you may sign up to have your salary deposited on the ATM/Debit Payroll card. Every payday, your salary will automatically be transferred to your card, which works just like a regular ATM/debit card.
