Fall and Spring
Academic Internships

Our for-credit internship program is extremely flexible. Youth Villages will work with you and your professor to tailor an internship that meets your academic and practicum needs, as well as that of your class schedule.  

At the master’s level, graduate students have the opportunity to:

   Shadow counselors

   Assist with clinical assessments and documentation

   Learn our electronic medical records system 

Facilitate individual, group and/or family therapy sessions with clinical supervision

   Participate in treatment team and consultation meetings, as well as receive individual supervision.

At the bachelor’s level, junior- or senior-level students will have the opportunity to:

   Shadow counselors

   Assist with clinical assessments and documentation

   Learn our electronic medical records system 

   Participate in treatment team and consultation meetings

Each year, we place more than 70 bachelor’s and master’s level interns throughout our residential programs and group homes in Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee. The internship is a 10-week, full-time, paid position where interns work alongside Youth Villages’ direct care, clinical and leadership staff to make a difference in the lives of children. Interns have the opportunity for support and professional development through initial training and weekly consultation with campus leadership.

Assist youth with the positive development and implementation of individual goals and objectives

Attend planning and treatment team meetings

Assist in resolving conflicts using Collaborative Problem Solving techniques and role playing

Plan and lead recreational activities

Facilitate ongoing group evaluations throughout the day for planned activities and responsibilities

 Develop and lead life skills groups

Master’s level interns also assist with treatment planning and facilitate individual, group and family therapy alongside licensed clinical staff. 

Applications for our Summer 2021 Internship Program are available now and offers are made on a rolling basis until all slots have been filled. The final deadline to apply is April 5 2021.

Recreation Therapy Internships

Youth Villages offers unpaid internships in our Recreation Therapy Program in Douglasville, Georgia, and Memphis, Tennessee.

 

Work alongside a therapist certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification

Learn how to complete assessments and clinical documentation

Participate in treatment team planning

Get hands-on experience

Live on campus in Georgia (subject to availability)
