Intensive In-home Services in North Carolina (MST)

MST is built on the principle and scientific evidence that a seriously troubled child's behavioral problems are multidimensional and must be confronted using multiple strategies. In North Carolina, our programs have documented success. Youth Villages has served 1,608 children in North Carolina as of December 2009. On average, two-thirds stay in the Multisystemic Therapy Program for 90-180 days. Based on 563 completed surveys, 79 percent reported success at a six-month follow-up. Success is defined as living at home or in a home-like environment. At 12 months, 338 families reported an 83 percent success rate.

Transitional Living in North Carolina

The transition from teenage years to adulthood is rarely easy, even for children with strong parental support and significant resources. For teenagers in state custody, "aging-out" of the system with little or no support can be especially challenging. In 1999, Youth Villages, through a grant from The Day Foundation, began a Transitional Living Program to help these children get a good start on adulthood in the crucial years between age 17 and 22. Transitional Living counselors help young people learn to deal with the minor and major problems that come with adulthood. Learn more about the Youth Villages Transitional Living program.
