The Youth Villages group homes, located in West and Middle Tennessee, include seven group homes in Memphis, Nashville and Jackson plus the Memphis Project Safe Place emergency shelter, the area's only runaway and homeless shelter for teens.
Group homes allow young people to receive mental health support while they learn to live successfully in the community.
Since 1997, Youth Villages' eight group homes have helped children learn life and independent living skills. Older children are taught how to budget, shop for groceries, cook meals, use the public transportation system, and, in some cases, hold down a job. Programs focus on healthy living and problem solving.
Children in the group homes attend public schools, and many have after-school jobs. Additionally, the children participate in outings, such as skating, bowling, swimming and visits to museums and other attractions.
