Overview of Inner Harbour Programs

General Psychiatric Programs
Youth with emotional and behavioral disturbances between the ages of 13-21, with an IQ of 50 and above, are considered for these programs. The focus of treatment is on rapid assessments, the development of social, emotional, and coping skills, intensive family therapy, substance abuse education, and cognitive therapies to prepare youth for successful re-integration back into the community.

Children's Program
Youth with emotional, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders for children up to age 12, with an IQ of 50 and above, are considered for this program. The focus of treatment is on rapid assessments, the development of social, emotional, and coping skills, intensive family therapy, and cognitive therapies to prepare youth for successful re-integration back into the community.

RBWO Continuum
This program is a stabilization and reunification program for Department of Family & Children Services females or males, ages 10-17 and their families. Services are primarily provided with intensive in-home treatment. When necessary, the continuum also provides short term out of home residential placement.

The RBWO Continuum is available to youth from Dekalb, Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Douglas counties who:
  • Are in danger of an out of home placement due to: mental health issues, serious behaviors (*including substance abuse, defiance, runaway, truancy, etc. and/or serious family conflict such as a report of abuse and/or neglect)
  • Have been out of the home up to 24 months and are returning to their home (reunification) from a residential or foster care placement
  • In adoptive placements that are in danger of disruption
  • Have a viable family placement
Youth who may not be eligible for this program include those who:
  • Are actively homicidal, suicidal or psychotic without medication stabilization
  • Require close medical supervision
  • Have displayed recent violent behavior toward self or others
  • Have engaged in deliberate fire setting behavior or sexual acting out
  • Do not have viable family who are willing to participate in the program
The following information will be requested upon referral:
  • Psychological dated within the last 2 years including a diagnosis
  • Psychosexual (if applicable)
  • Letter of Funding for RBWO
  • CCFA

Excel
Continuum
The Excel Continuum is available to DJJ committed youth from Dekalb, Fulton,Cobb, Gwinnett, and Douglas counties who:
  • Are in danger of an out of home placement due to: juvenile justice involvement, mental health issues, serious behaviors (*including substance abuse, defiance, runaway, truancy, etc. and/or serious family conflict (such as a report of abuse and/or neglect).
  • Have been out of the home up to 24 months and are returning to their home (reunification) from a residential or foster care placement.
  • In adoptive placements that are in danger of disruption.
  • Have a viable family placement.
The following information will be requested upon referral:
  • Psychological dated within the last 2 years including a diagnosis
  • Psychosexual (if applicable)
  • Letter of Funding for RBWO
  • CCFA

Angela's House
Females ages 13-17 years with a history of sexual exploitation and an IQ of 75 or greater are eligible for this program. Girls may also be court ordered from Fulton County to participate in this program. The focus in treatment is on recovery from abuse, empowerment, education regarding high risk behaviors, medical and psychiatric assessment, substance abuse education, and intensive family therapy aimed at successful re-integration of the youth back into the family. Residents participate in an on campus SACS accredited school.

Families In Transition Program (F.I.T.)
F.I.T. is a 10-week decision-making skills program for youth and their parents. F.I.T. helps parents strengthen communication with their children and helps youth take responsibility for their actions. F.I.T. classes address life and social skills, e.g., negotiation, listening, decision-making, etc. F.I.T. is funded by Inner Harbour and the United Way and available for families with youth from the ages of 10-16. In addition, Spanish speaking groups are available.

Clinical Model
Dialectical Behavior Therapy or DBT for short is the treatment model utilized at Inner Harbour. This is a clinical approach for people who are experiencing intense, negative emotions that interfere with their daily lives. These emotions may be expressed outwardly in destructive ways such as angry outbursts, or inwardly by self-destructive behaviors such as suicide attempts, substance abuse, or impulsive actions. The goal of DBT at Inner Harbour is to teach our youth more effective ways to regulate their emotions, deal with distressing situations in their lives, and to improve relationships with the people around them.
