Education

Inner Harbour is an accredited school with specially trained teachers who weave educational objectives into every activity. The school is committed to the creation of secure learning environments that promote mutual respect and trust between students and teachers. Our faculty believes that every student is capable of successful achievements in the learning process. Through experience, we have found that many students are resistant and unmotivated as a result of emotional difficulties, differences in learning styles, repeated experiences of failure and feelings of worthlessness. As we encourage students to reflect and evaluate how they learn, they become personally involved in their educational and social experiences.

Clinical Model

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is one of the clinical treatment models utilized at Inner Harbour. DBT is for people who are experiencing intense, negative emotions that interfere with their daily lives. The goal of DBT at Inner Harbour is to teach our youth effective ways to regulate emotions, deal with distressing situations, and to improve relationships.

Goals of Treatment

  • Improve cognitive functioning, learning skills, and ability to follow through on tasks
  • Increase appropriate social interaction, listening and communication skills
  • Address serious behavior problems such as tantrums, aggression, self-injury, destructive behaviors, hyperactivity, and non-compliance
  • Decrease repetitive and restrictive patterns of behavior
  • Identify skills, strengths and abilities and enhance self-esteem
  • Improve IQ, achievement scores, and school performance
  • Reduce or eliminate medication
